DC History

2008

  1. Virender Sehwag was named the captain.
  2. Delhi Daredevils showed great promise in the first season.
  3. They reached the semi finals but we’re however knocked out by the Rajasthan Royals who went on to lift the inaugural title.

2009

  1. Dominating the entirety of the 2009 season, Daredevils reached the top of the table when the group stages ended, thanks to their captain Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, AB de Villiers and Dirk Nannes.
  2. However they again crumbled in the semi-finals against Deccan Chargers. Adam Gilchrist struck IPL’s fastest fifty off 17 balls.

2010

  1. Dinesh Karthik became captain of the Delhi based franchise.
  2. Daredevils fell short of receiving the semi finals finishing fifth.

2011

  1. James Hopes assumed captaincy duties.
  2. Yet another disappointing season for the Daredevils finishing right at the last at 10th place.

2012

  1. Mahela Jayawardene was made the captain.
  2. Delhi crumbled again at the semi finals finishing third.

2013

  1. Daredevils had yet another captaincy change in Ross Taylor.
  2. Delhi finished at the bottom of the table at 9th place.

2014

  1. David Warner was named captain of the Daredevils.
  2. The 2014 edition was played in the UAE.
  3. Daredevils finished eighth at the bottom of the table.

2015

  1. Kevin Pietersen assumed captainship responsibilities.
  2. Delhi bought Yuvraj Singh for 16 crores.
  3. Delh Daredevils was on the receiving end of criticism from experts and fans alike due to their poor performance.
  4. Delhi Daredevils finished seventh in this season.

2016

  1. JP Duminy was appointed captain of the Daredevils.
  2. The Daredevils had an impressive start to the sixth season.
  3. Although they were the favourites to reach the playoffs, however they finished sixth on the points table.

2017

  1. Zaheer Khan was appointed the captain of Delhi Daredevils.
  2. Delhi finished 6th in the 2017 IPL season.

2018

  1. Gautam Gambhir was appointed the captain of the Delhi team.
  2. He however stepped down viewing his poor forms which opened the doors of captaincy for the young Shreyas Iyer.
  3. It was a disappointing season for the Delhi franchise but they finished the season at the eight place.

2019

  1. Delhi Daredevils changed their name to Delhi Capitals.
  2. Delhi retained 14 players from its previous roster. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan joined them as a result of a trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
  3. Sourav Ganguly became their official advisor.
  4. Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs after seven whole years.
  5. They however lost in the playoffs and ended second runners up.

2020

  1. DC’s recent additions before the 2020 IPL are- Ajinkya Rahane, Jason Roy, Shimron Hetmyer, Chris Woakes, Marcus Stoinis, Lalit Yadav, Alex Carey, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Tushar Despande.
