Rajasthan Royals SQUAD

The inaugural champions of the IPL have been unable to reach any other final since their dream campaign in 2008. The franchise would be looking forward to turning the tables this time around. They retained 14 players in their IPL 2020 team including the hero of 2019 ICC World Cup, Ben Stokes. They also retained the all-rounder’s compatriot, Jos Butler. They filled all the 11 spots they had on their squad in the auctions. The franchise spent 2.40 crore on Mumbai youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal.

History

2008

  1. Deemed underdogs by cricketing pundits.
  2. Australian ace spinner Shane Warne named captain.
  3. RR smashes through popular opinions to lift the inaugural IPL trophy.

2009

  1. The Defending champions lost their trump card from the first season, Sohail Tanvir due to the ban imposed by the BCCI on Pakistani players.
  2. Shane Watson was also unavailable for the entire season.
  3. RR finishes 6th out of the eight teams.

2010

  1. Yusuf Pathan hits the then fastest IPL hundred off of just 37 balls.
  2. Rajasthan failed miserably for the second time as they finished 7th this time.

2011

  1. RR and KXIP got temporarily ejected out of IPL due to issues of their unreported ownership changes.
  2. Shane Watson and Shane Warne were retained.
  3. RR bought in serious pace attack in Shaun Tait and Johan Botha.
  4. RR finished 6th.

2012

  1. Rajasthan Royals finished in seventh place after a disappointing season.
  2. RR won only seven matches out of sixteen.

2013

  1. RR finished third in the group stages.
  2. They won the eliminator but lost the Qualifier 2.
  3. Three Rajasthan Royals players Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested from Mumbai by Delhi Police along with eleven bookies on charges of spot-fixing in the tournament on 16th May, 2013. They were later suspended by BCCI indefinitely.

2014

  1. Rajasthan Royals retained five players – Sanju Samson, Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, James Faulkner and Stuart Binny.
  2. Shane Watson was named captain.
  3. RR failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished 5th.

2015

  1. Shane Watson continued as the captain for the second year.
  2. RR reached the playoffs and finished fourth.

2016

  1. RR were banned following the spot-fixing fiasco.

2017

  1. RR were banned following the spot-fixing fiasco.

2018

  1. Rajasthan made their comeback after the two-year ban.
  2. Ajinkya Rahane was appointed the captain of the team.
  3. Following Steven Smith’s ban, Heinrich Klassen was named as replacement.

2019

  1. Steven Smith returns after the ban.
  2. Another disappointing year as RR finishes the season at the 7th place.

2020
